I found these drawings from the children very interesting because they have been drawn by one child who is very able (the “scribble”) and another child who is much less able.

These drawings made me think about reliability of children’s recording in terms of their understanding. I listened to the LSA questioning the more able child to encourage him to tell her what he really knew about plant structure by focusing the child on what was actually in front of him and then looking at his representation.
Questioning skills are clearly very important in assessing for learning.
The drawings are also interesting because they have made me think about the skills children use in Art and Science. Is there an overlap or are the skills identical? I must carry out some research into this area for the purposes of cross curricular teaching and learning.
